Channel is currently funded by the Arts Council and commits to upholding its Paying the Artist policy.

Our rates of pay for written work are:
  • €50 per poem
  • €50 per print page of prose, up to a maximum of  €150 per piece
  • €150 per prose piece published on our website

Musicians performing at our launches and events are paid €150.

We offer a contribution of €40 towards travel expenses for all writers and artists travelling outside their county of residence to perform at our events, and aim to cover travel expenses in full where possible.

Each year we engage a Publishing Intern to assist the Channel team in all aspects of our work. This role is offered on a freelance basis, with working hours of 2-10 hours per week, and the intern is paid a fee of €10.50 per hour.

We are upfront about our fees from the first email or phone call re. an offer of work or publication, and respect every artist’s right to negotiate upwards on any fee offered.

Payment for all work to be published is made prior to the date of publication. All payments for commissioned work and performances are made within 14 days of receipt of an invoice, which can be emailed to us on completion of the requested work.

We ensure writers fees are ringfenced within our budget so that fees are protected if overruns occur in other areas of our operations.

We ensure that writers’ copyright is respected, both in terms of moral and economic rights. Full details of the rights that we buy when we accept a piece for publication can be found on our submissions page.

We believe in the importance of transparency on matters of pay and working conditions, and that sharing this information publicly is to the benefit of all writers.

Much of the language in the above is borrowed from the Arts Council’s Paying the Artist Policy document, whose principles we align ourselves with.
