2026 Publishing Intern


We are currently inviting applications for an intern to assist the Channel team across all areas of our work, commencing in April and ending in November 2026.

Working hours will generally be 2–10 hours per week (to be negotiated throughout the year in alignment with your availability and our production calendar), paid at a rate of €14.15 an hour. Aside from regular team meetings at mutually agreed times, the intern will not be required to work fixed hours; instead, they will be free to complete assigned tasks as their own schedule allows.

The role will be offered on a contract for services basis, and is open to all applicants resident within the island of Ireland and legally entitled to take up freelance work. Channel does not discriminate on the basis of gender identity, sexual orientation, civil or family status, religion, age, disability, socioeconomic background, race or membership of the Traveller community. Work will be conducted remotely. You must have access to a laptop and an internet connection.

The intern will our team through a period of transition, as Channel passes from sole trader ownership to management under a new CLG structure. They will be invited to get involved in all areas of our work, from the submission and selection process to editing, design and production, as well as event planning and marketing. Prior experience with these processes is not mandatory; training will be provided, and we look forward to hearing from applicants across a range of working backgrounds. The most important characteristic we look for in an intern is a genuine interest in Channel‘s output and publishing model – if you want to work in publishing or the arts in a way that prioritises sustainability and connection, we would love to help you build your skills.

There is room to adapt the internship in line with the interests and skillset of the successful candidate. Broadly, however, tasks are likely to include:

  • Logging, reading and selecting submissions
  • Liaising with contributors, printers and stockists
  • Proofreading print issues and website content
  • Publishing content on our WordPress-based website and social media platforms
  • Generating newsletter content in Mailchimp
  • Drafting press releases and assisting with press engagement
  • Organising launch events

The successful candidate will have:

  • An interest in Irish independent publishing
  • An awareness of the work that Channel publishes and a keen interest in writing that engages creatively with nature, climate and ecology
  • A good eye for proofreading
  • Strong communication skills
  • The capacity to meet deadlines
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Knowledge of some or all of the following would be helpful:

  • Google Drive, Google Docs and Google Sheets
  • Website management, particularly in WordPress
  • Social media, including Instagram, X, Facebook, Bluesky and/or TikTok
  • Marketing copywriting (to include social media content, press releases and website updates)
  • The Irish language and Irish-language publishing
